Hinged or stayed along the top of the window panel, the bottom of the panel opens out via winders, friction stays or struts, to provide good ventilation, whilst also providing some rain protection when left open on wet days. When used with winders, awning windows can be restricted to suit fall prevention requirements.
Awnings may not be suitable in areas that have narrow walkways, as the operable sash will project from the frame when in the open position.
